CULPEPER — The late winter storm that dropped several inches of snow on Piedmont Virginia has passed but high winds are expected to continue overnight. Temperatures will also drop well below freezing overnight Saturday and early Sunday morning, freezing any moisture that remains on roads, sidewalks and parking lots.

Travel will remain hazardous overnight due to black ice and debris on roads and the Virginia Department of Transportation urges drivers to postpone travel until temperatures warm after dawn on Sunday. Those who must be on the road during the storm should reduce speed, increase following distance and use VDOT’s free 511 tools to find out about road conditions along the route.

VDOT crews will remain on duty overnight to clear roads. Once interstates and primary highways are passable the crews are shifting their work to secondary roads and neighborhoods.
