RT. 647 BRIDGE IN FAUQUIER CO. TO CLOSE FOR REPLACEMENT
Thumb Run structure will be replaced, detour to begin on Feb. 28

CULPEPER — The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the bridge on Route 647 (Crest Hill Road) over Thumb Run in Fauquier County on Monday, Feb. 28. During the closure the 88-year-old structurally deficient bridge will be replaced with a bridge that meets current design standards.

Fairfield-Echols LLC, of Fishersville, Va., will construct the replacement structure under a $2.8 million contract. The project will be complete and the bridge open to traffic by Nov. 11, 2022.

During the closure a signed detour will be in place to route traffic around the closure using Route 635 (Hume Road) and Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road). Other alternate routes are available for local traffic; those unsigned routes should not be used by large vehicles or commercial traffic.

The segment of Route 647 between Route 688 and Route 733 (Wilson Road) where the bridge is located carries about 800 vehicles per day according to 2019 traffic data.

More information is available on the project web page on the VDOT web site. A detour map is also posted on the project page.
