6 P.M. UPDATE: All lanes of I-95 northbound are now open at mile marker 123 in Spotsylvania County, between Exit 118/Thornburg and Exit 126/Spotsylvania.

5:40 P.M. UPDATE: Two lanes of I-95 northbound are now open at mile marker 123 in Spotsylvania, with one northbound lane still closed at scene of earlier crash. Expect residual delays on I-95 northbound as congestion clears. 

4:55 P.M. UPDATE: Single lane has reopened at mile marker 123 in Spotsylvania, and detour at Exit 118/Thornburg has been lifted. But 11 miles of backup remains leading up to earlier crash scene, and 2 northbound lanes remain closed. 

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – All lanes of Interstate 95 northbound remain closed in Spotsylvania County for a single-vehicle crash at mile marker 123, which is between Exit 118/Thornburg and Exit 126/Spotsylvania.

Northbound I-95 motorists can expect significant travel delays in this area for the remainder of this afternoon, and into the early evening hours.

I-95 northbound traffic is being detoured at Exit 118 to Route 1 northbound, where traffic can re-enter the interstate north of the crash at Exit 126/Spotsylvania.

I-95 northbound traffic stopped between Exit 118 and the incident at mile marker 123 is being directed around the crash scene on the right shoulder.

Around 9 miles of congestion are currently reported on I-95 northbound approaching the scene.

Motorists traveling north from the Richmond area and points south may consider taking I-95 Exit 104/Carmel Church in Caroline County to use Route 207 and Route 301 as another alternate route.
