FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Several dozen state-maintained roads remain closed in Fredericksburg District at midday due to downed trees or utility lines, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews continue working to restore access in affected areas and to pick up debris from this weekend's ice storm.

Falling tree debris remains a travel hazard. Before starting a trip, motorists are advised to check 511Virginia for a real-time list of roads closed along their route. Road conditions may vary significantly across Virginia, with severe storm impacts in south-central parts of the state. Call 511, visit 511virginia.org, or download the free mobile 511Virginia app. Use the Text Views option to view a full list of closed roads by locality or district.

Roads are currently closed due to downed trees or utility lines in Caroline, Lancaster, King and Queen, King William, Northumberland and Richmond counties.

Motorists should plan to reduce speed and proceed with caution. Expect the unexpected, with potential debris in the road ahead. Although roads have been treated, isolated icy patches may exist, especially on roads carrying lighter traffic volumes, and on elevated structures, including bridges and ramps.

Traffic signals may be fully or partially out of service in some locations. If there are no traffic signal lights visible, motorists should treat the intersection as a four-way stop. If signal lights are flashing yellow, motorists should proceed through the intersection with caution. If signal lights are flashing red, treat the signal as a stop sign.

Stay alert for VDOT, utility and contractor crews working along the roadside to clear downed trees and restore power. Remember to move over and slow down for stopped vehicles with flashing, blinking or alternating blue, red or amber lights.
