Overnight Ramp Closures at Multiple I-66 Interchanges May 14–19 for the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project

FAIRFAX – Temporary ramp closures are scheduled to occur during the overnight hours at the following I-66 interchanges as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Sunday night, May 14 (Monday night, May 15, will be used as backup)
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 28 North
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramps will be closed from 10:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured to Route 28 South, to Route 29 (Lee Highway) North, stay to the right and follow signs to Route 28 North. Drivers heading to Braddock Road/Walney Road will stay left and follow signs to the exit on the left. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures.

Sunday, May 14, through Thursday, May 18
Ramp from Route 28 North to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving and drainage work. Traffic will be directed to continue farther north to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers traveling to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.

 

Sunday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 17, through Friday, May 19
Ramps from I-66 East to Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) North and South and a portion of the I-66 East collector-distributor lane
A portion of the I-66 East collector-distributor lane and the ramps will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving, restriping, barrier removal, and guardrail installation. Traffic will be directed to continue farther east to Route 50 West, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 286 North or South. 

 

Sunday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 17, through Friday, May 19
Ramps from Route 286 North and South to I-66 East
The ramps will be closed each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for restriping and pavement preparation. Route 286 North traffic will be directed to continue north past I-66, exit to Route 50 East, travel about two miles and follow signs to I-66 East. Route 286 South traffic will be directed to exit to Route 50 East prior to the closure, then follow signs to I-66 East.

 

Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 50 East
The ramp will be closed both nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 286 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 50 East.

 

Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed both nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther west to Route 608 (West Ox Road) South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 29 North and South Centreville
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured prior to the closure to Route 28 South, then follow signs to Route 29 North or South. Note: This closure will not be implemented when the detour conflicts with other closures. 


Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from Route 29 North to I-66 West
The ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther north to the intersection of Machen Road/Trinity Parkway. At the traffic signal drivers will use the left-most left turn lane to make a U-turn onto Route 29 South, then stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 West.


Tuesday, May 16, through Thursday, May 18
Ramp from I-66 West to Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed each night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for paving and overhead bridge work. Traffic will be directed to Route 28 North, travel to the Westfields Boulevard Interchange. Drivers heading to Braddock Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard West, then continue to Braddock Road. Drivers traveling to Walney Road will take the exit to Westfields Boulevard East, then turn right onto Walney Road.


Tuesday, May 16, through Friday, May 19
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 28 North and Braddock Road/Walney Road
The ramp will be closed each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be detoured farther east to Route 286 North, stay to the right to I-66 West, then follow signs to Route 28 North. 


Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from I-66 East to Route 286 South
The ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving and restriping. Traffic will be directed to Route 286 North, stay right to the ramp to I-66 West, then stay right to Route 286 South.


Tuesday, May 16
Ramp from I-495 South to I-66 West   
The ramp will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for overhead sign installation. Traffic will be detoured farther south to the exit to Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) East, stay to the right to Fairview Park, take the left fork to Fairview Park North, bear left at the traffic signal, stay to the right following signs to I-495 North and I-66, then follow signs to I-66 West.

 

Wednesday, May 17, through Friday, May 19
Ramp from Route 50 West to I-66 East
The ramp will be closed each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 608 South, stay to the right to Route 50 East, then follow signs to I-66 East.
